You don’t have to leave your hemisphere to tell a compelling story

It’s not every day you get paid to travel to Machu Picchu. But when Saint Anselm College called and asked us to create a video about a group of students studying abroad, we jumped at the chance. It was an amazing eight days as we toured ancient ruins, listened to lectures, visited with local people and experienced their culture.

We’re editing the pieces now and we have some amazing footage. It really doesn’t get better than shooting in the Andes. But pretty pictures aren’t going to make a compelling story. You still need the other pieces to tell the story.

We have them – the students. Their stories about how the trip has changed them, opened their eyes, and changed their priorities are really what make these pieces work. Their passion and their appreciation of the experience are the building blocks of the pieces we are cutting together.

You do need some sizzle to capture people’s attention, but without a story you won’t have them for long. It’s a good reminder for every project.
