Build Yourself a Library

We’re a visual species. We respond to pictures. Think about how important visuals are to our communications. There’s a reason cat videos are so popular…

So it’s often surprising how few organizations document their big events or milestones.  It’s one of the simpler and less expensive things you can do. Pictures add life to press releases, websites, emails, tweets and Facebook pages.  If a picture is worth a thousand words, think of how much less you’ll have to write.

Our mantra at Heartwood is “show, don’t tell.”

We recently created a video for a nonprofit. They’re well-known for an annual event, yet they had few images of participants and the activities. The events are quite emotional and a few key images would have gone a long way to capturing the impact of their work. Their key lesson from working on the video – they need to commit to taking pictures/video at their future events.

Do you have someone on your staff that can dedicate their time to taking pictures at your next event? Even better – what can you budget to have a professional take pictures? You’ll see the difference and your communications people will thank you.
