You’ve thought about who you want to interview for your video. You’ve picked the perfect location and discussed how the graphics should look.
Have you thought about the voiceover?
The voice you use to tell your story can have as much impact as any other part of your video. Do you use a male or female voice? A casual, informative read or an authoritative tone? Each of these choices can affect the feel of the story you’re trying to tell. When thinking about voiceover, keep these 3 things in mind:
- Who is your audience? Are they male or female? Is it a business audience or a more general audience?
- What are you trying to communicate? Is the video informational? Are you trying to persuade?
- What is the overall mood of the piece? It could be fun, dramatic, confident.
We typically ask a few voiceover artists to read a short section of the client’s script as a demo. Sometimes hearing someone read your script makes all the difference in the world. You’ll know who you want to work with – it’s an “I know it when I hear it” kind of thing.
The right voice can be a significant factor in the success of your video. Consider the audience, the message and the feel of the piece when choosing your voice talent to make your video more compelling and effective.
These are some great suggestions for what to do when considering a voiceover. It might help to consult with someone who has experience with video production. Getting an outside opinion is usually helpful in most situations.
